Vale Christopher Pollitt

July 5th, 2018

The academic public management community is mourning the passing of Prof. dr. Christopher Pollitt. He was a prolific scholar across a number of different areas but is best known for his decades of scholarly work on New Public Management and performance management in particular.

Many IRSPM members know Christopher personally, far more know his impressive body of scholarship, and all will no doubt be saddened to hear of his passing. He was awarded the Routledge Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Public Management Research by the society in 2008.

During the last few months, the IRSPM board has been in touch with Christopher to seek his blessing for naming our annual best conference paper prize after him. I am happy to announce that he agreed to this, and from 2019, we will be presenting this prize named for him, each year at the conference.

I know that many IRSPM members have met and worked with him over the years, and will be deeply affected by this news.

On behalf of the IRSPM board, I offer condolences to his family and friends and to his many colleagues around the world.

Prof. Jenny M Lewis, President of IRSPM
