New Researchers' Chapter PDF Print E-mail

The new researchers’ chapter aims at becoming the international network for future academic leaders in the field of public management by providing doctoral students and young academics (within three years of academic career) with:

-     a forum for the exchange and advancement of ideas in the field of public management

-     guidance and support on their doctoral and research activities

-     links and opportunities of dialogue with distinguished academics of the field.

"IRSPM is not just a conference but rather a network of leading scholars and practitioners of public management you want to belong to.  My experience with the New Researchers Panel & Chapter was tremendous. Every effort was made on the part of IRSPM to provide sage advice, facilitate engagement with senior scholars, offer thought provoking scholarship, as well as an open and inclusive environment for up-and-coming scholars.  I would encourage any and all new scholars to explore the rich depth of value that IRSPM has to offer." (Jonathan Craft, Simon Fraser University, Canada)

Benefits for the New Researchers

Through the IRSPM website and the annual conference, the chapter aims at providing a forum for exchanging ideas, information and suggestions on how to design and conduct research, as well as information on career opportunities, PhD and postdoctoral programmes.

Each year, specific events for New Researchers are organized at the annual IRSPM conference, including:

-     the New Researchers’ panel, where young researchers can present their current research and obtain feedback from leading academics of their field, as well as from their peers.

-     the meet-and-greet reception/lunch, during which new researchers can meet each other and the executive board members

-     the Editors’ Forum, where New Researchers meet editors of leading journals in the public management field

-  the Doctoral Workshop where experts in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods engage in a dialogue with New Researchers over research methodology and methods. In 2012, Prof Barry Bozeman gave a seminar on Semi-structured interviewing.

Scholarships and fee waivers opportunities are provided to ensure geographical diversity of the panel.

A prize is awarded to the best paper presented in the New Researchers’ panel. In 2012 the winner was Kirsty Strockosch with her paper “The co-production of public services: can asylum seekers co-produce?”.

We trust you will take advantage of all the benefits that joining the chapter entails and we are also open to suggestions as to how to further assist you in your work! We hope to see as many of you as possible at the 17th annual conference in Prague!
